    Quadrilateral Cowboy spent a little over four years in development. The game began development in March 22, 2012 and shipped July 25, 2016.

    What technology does Quadrilateral Cowboy use?

    Quadrilateral Cowboy uses a modified version of id Software's idTech4 engine. It uses iodoom3 as its code base.

    SDL2 integration was done by Aaron Melcher.

    Quadrilateral Cowboy uses the idTech 4 (Doom 3) engine. The source code is written in C++ and includes the solution files for Microsoft Visual C++ 2010.

    Can I use a gamepad to play?

    Quadrilateral Cowboy was designed for keyboard & mouse controls. Rudimentary gamepad support is included, but is not recommended.

    How can I reset my settings?

    How to reset the game's settings:
    1. Locate the doomconfig.cfg file.
      You can find this file in: If you're on the non-Steam build: If you're using Linux:
    2. Delete doomconfig.cfg

    How do I open the config file for the Windows non-Steam version?

    1. Click on the Windows start button.
    2. Paste this in: %appdata%\blendogames\Quadrilateral Cowboy\base\
    3. Use a text editor to open the file: DoomConfig.cfg

    It's not running on my laptop

    Some laptops have two pieces of video hardware: a built-in internal graphics chip, and a separate video card. Sometimes the laptop needs to be manually told which one to use.

    Typically this setting can be accessed via the system tray, such as the Nvidia Settings program. Please check and make sure Quadrilateral Cowboy is using the video card, not the internal graphics chip.

    I'm getting the error message: "failed to open log file 'qconsole.log'"

    This crash generally happens when the computer's username has an umlaut, accent, or special character in it. I'm investigating solutions into this, but in the meantime:
    • You may be able to work around this issue by running Quadrilateral Cowboy with administrative privileges. (right-click on quadrilateralcowboy.exe and select Run as Administrator)
    • You may be able to work around this issue by going through the process of renaming your user folder.

    1. In Options > Advanced Options, enable Debug Console
    2. Press tilde (~)
